Terminology

This is a glossary of local and national drug related terminology.


Bombing/bombs
A drug (usually a powder) wrapped up in a cigarette paper to form a home-made tablet, and then swallowed.

Bong
Home-made water pipe used for the smoking of cannabis.

Chasing the dragon
Terminology to describe the smoking of heroin.

Clucking
Withdrawing from a drug.

Cutting
Chopping up a drug finely usually in preperation for sniffing or injecting.

Cold turkey
Withdrawal from a drug with no prescription medication or substitutes.

Detox
Detoxification.

Dig
Injecting.

Dropping
Swallowing (usually a tablet).

Double dropping
Taking two (tablets) at the same time.

Gear
Term used to describe any drug e.g. have you got the gear?

Gouching
Under the influence of a drug.

Gouched out
Under the influence of a drug.

Hot knives
Method of smoking cannabis where it is placed between two heated knives and smoke is inhaled.

Joint
A cannabis cigarette.

Lines
Powdered drugs are often measured out into small lines before being sniffed up the nose.

Mashed
Under the influence of a drug

Munchies
Effect of cannabis where the user craves food such as crisps and chocolate.

Popping
Taking a drug, usually in tablet form eg pop a pill.

Rattle/Rattling
The side effects of not taking a drug that the user is physically addicted to.

Score
To purchase a drug.

Skin popping
Injecting a drug just under the surface of the skin, not in a vein.

Snort
To sniff up the nose.

Speedball
A combination of cocaine and heroin.

Spliff
A cannabis cigarette.

Stacking
Taking more and more of a particular drug over a small period of time.

Stoned
Under the influence of a drug (usually cannabis).

Toke
Taking an inhalation of a cannabis cigarette.

Wasted
Under the influence of a drug.

Withdrawal
Stopping using a drug after a dependency/addiction has formed.

Wrap
Small, home made paper envelope used for packaging powdered drugs.
