The Law

Possession
If you are caught with drugs the Police will ALWAYS take action, even if its only a small amount. What happens depends on the circumstances. You might get a warning and have the drug confiscated, or, if its more serious you will be arrested.

Dealing
Dealing is very serious. The Police may accuse you of dealing if you:

• Get caught with drugs that you were going to share with your mates.

• You have large quantities of a drug and the Police don’t think it is all for your own personal use.

Remember: even sharing drugs ie. No money changing hands, or you are just passing something to a mate – will be seen as dealing.

Illegal drugs are put into three categories:
• Class A
• Class B
• Class C

Class A drugs are the most harmful.

Class A
Cocaine, crack, heroin, crystal meth, ecstasy, LSD and magic mushrooms (as soon as they are picked).

Possession – up to 7 years in prison.
Dealing – up to life in prison.

Class B
Speed (if it is prepared for injection is becomes Class A).

Possession – up to five years in prison.
Dealing – up to 14 years in prison.

Class C
Anabolic steroids, cannabis, ketamine and illegal possession of prescription medication.

Possession – up to two years in prison.
Dealing – up to 14 years in prison.

If you are caught in possession or dealing illegal drugs you will get a criminal record.

Some employers will not give people jobs if they have a criminal record.

Some countries will not allow you to go there on holiday (or to live) if you have a criminal record related to drugs.

It is also illegal to grow or make illegal drugs.
