Drug Info - Methadone

Other names
diconal, linctus, meth, pethidine, temgesic

Methadone is usually a green, sickly liquid.

Methadone is a man made opiate that come from the opium poppy. It is prescribed by doctors to help people to come off heroin. Methadone does not give the user a ‘buzz’ or ‘high’ like heroin but it stops people from having withdrawal symptoms and feeling ill if they do not have their heroin.

Some users can get addicted to Methadone and have withdrawal illness if they stop taking it – but its better than stopping taking heroin.

Methadone can create a feeling of warmth and relaxation. The pupils of the eyes will shrink and the user may become constipated (cant have a poo!!).

It is crucial that the user sticks to the recommended dosage, if you take too much it can make it difficult to breath or you may end up passing out.

It is VERY dangerous to mix Methadone with any other drug, especially Alcohol or Heroin – it may lead to death. NOT CLEVER!
