Khat is a leaf that is chewed for a number of hours to produce a stimulant effect similar to the effects of amphetamine (speed).

Using it can make people feel alert and talkative.

If used a lot Khat can lead to insomnia (no sleep), heart problems and impotence (cant get an erection). It can also cause anxiety and aggression. It can make any mental health problems worse.

Khat can make users psychologically dependant so when they stop using they feel depressed.

Khat is not illegal in the UK although it is illegal in other countries were it is more widely used.
