Drug Info - Heroin

Other names
brown, H, horse, junk, skag, smack

Heroin has a strong painkilling effect. It comes from opium (from the opium poppy).

Not everyone gets addicted to Heroin ‘the first time’ but the more often you use it the more likely you are to become tolerant (so you cant feel the effects as much) Then the user has to take more and more of the drug just to feel ‘normal’ If someone is addicted they get cravings and feel really ill if they don’t have it.

A lot of people who are addicted to heroin have to commit crimes to get the money to buy the drugs.

Using for the first time can cause dizziness and vomiting.

Small doses of heroin can give the user a feeling of warmth and well-being.

Bigger doses can make the user sleepy and relaxed.

Excessive doses can lead to user having problems to breath or even stopping breathing.

Female users can stop having regular periods (although it is still possible for them to become pregnant).
