Drug Info - Ecstacy

Other names
doves, E, MDA, MDMA, mitshibishis, pills, XTC

Not addictive but can cause psychological dependency. It is easy to develop a tolerance so user has to take more of the drug to get the same effect.

Takes about half hour after taking for effects to start. Gives user an energy high that lasts between 3 and 6 hours, followed by a slow comedown.

Sounds, colours and emotions feel more intense, dilates the users pupils, produces a tingly feeling, tightens the jaw muscles, raises the body temperature, makes the heart beat faster and makes people more chatty.

Short-term effects can include anxiety, panic attacks, confused episodes, first time epileptic fits and paranoia.

Evidence suggests that long term use can cause depression, personality change and memory loss.

Has been linked to liver, kidney and heart problems.

Ecstasy makes people feel very hot (inside and outside) so they need to try and keep cool.

Small amounts of water should be sipped at regular intervals – for example, making a pint of water last for about an hour. If you drink too much water your body cant cope with it and you can end up with brain swelling which can put people in a coma.
